With less than 70% coverage, Acre has the second lower garbage collection in the country, says IBGE

Acre is among the Brazilian states with lower coverage of garbage collection. According to data from PNAD Continuous 2024, released by IBGE on Friday (22), only 68.4% of the state’s households had the garbage collected directly by cleaning service.

The percentage is the second lowest in the country, behind only Maranhão (64.3%). Despite its low ranking position, the state showed improvement compared to 2016, when the direct collection rate was 65.9%.

In rural areas, the reality is quite different. Only 8%of homes have direct collection, while most still turn to waste burning (74%) or discarding cleaning buckets (8.7%).
