Do not miss the date of planting blueberries. The gardener reveals how to do it well

Do you do it while planting blueberries? You can't count on fruit

Autumn is an ideal time for planting blueberries. It is worth planning the right place for a new plant before and learn the technique of planting. Check how to properly perform this procedure and when you have to get it with it.

It is worth planting American blueberry in autumn – in September or October. In these months, the bushes will root well, because the ground is warm and high humidity is high. There is then a better development of the root system before the arrival of winter.

Therefore, the plant is resistant to stress related to the weather. In spring, it begins to bloom abundantly and fruits in the summer. According to many gardeners, autumn planting is better than spring, because we do not need to systematically cultivate bushes. For example, in March or April they require regular watering.

As mentioned, it is worth planning a place in the garden for blueberries before. It must be sunny, sheltered from strong windsbecause they could break delicate branches and dry the leaves. Therefore, we recommend planting bushes at the fence, hedge or wall.

Under no circumstances should the plants in a shady place, e.g. with high trees. Then we will never get abundant crops.

The ground also matters. We plant blueberries on sour soil with a pH of 3.5 to 5.5. On the alkaline soil there is a poor growth, yellowing of the leaves and even the cessation of fruiting. That is why you should check its pH with a soil acid meter – we will buy it in a gardening store.

When the pH is too high, then we lower it with acid peat, sawdust or foundation for blueberries. In such a situation, we dig a hole and pour acid material into it – we never mix it with garden soil.

Let us also remember that this plant requires not only acidic, but also permeable, light and soil rich in humus. Let’s not sit in a place where the ground is heavy, loamy with water stasis.

We remove the American blueberry and plant in a sufficiently large hole filled with acid material. We do not put it too deeply – the top of the soil in the container should be at the same level as the surrounding soil. We water the plant as standard after the entire procedure.

The root system of the specimen is shallow, which is why the shrubs are often dry and weed. That is why it is worth with pine bark, wood chips or sigins from coniferous trees.

These materials not only allow you to maintain an adequate moisture level and limit the development of weeds, but also acidify the ground, which is beneficial for this plant. We complement such a litter once a year.
