US and Iran near agreement to end Middle East war, says Axios

The White House assesses that it is close to completing a preliminary, one-page memorandum to end the war with Iran, following United States President Donald Trump, according to Axios.

According to the report, Washington awaits responses from Tehran over the next 48 hours on points considered central. There is no agreement yet, but the internal assessment is that this is the moment of greatest proximity between the two countries since the beginning of the conflict.

The draft under discussion would include Iran’s commitment to a moratorium on nuclear enrichment, the lifting of U.S. sanctions, the release of billions of dollars in frozen Iranian resources and the resumption of traffic in the Strait of Hormuz by both sides.

On Tuesday, Trump decided to pause the operation to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, dubbed ‘Project Freedom’, just one day after announcing the start of the initiative. According to the president, the suspension of the operation will be for a short period to see if an agreement can be finalized and signed, although the blockade will remain in force.
