Ryanair has announced that all passengers can, from Thursday, take a free hand baggage greater than previously allowed. The measure applies to 235 airports across Europe and represents a 33% increase in the volume of the suitcase, which is 40x30x20 centimeters compared to the previous 40x30x15 centimeters.
According to the airline based in Dublin, this change aims to respond to passenger needs and simplify boarding procedures.
New dimensions in all airports on the network
According to Ryanair, each passenger is still entitled to a piece of hand luggage that should fit under the seat, but those who want to take a second suitcase can do so by acquiring the boarding priority service.
As SIC Notícias says, Carrier’s Marketing Director Dara Brady explained that luggage meters have been updated in all European network airports to adapt to new dimensions.
The company adds that passengers can also choose the ‘check-in’ of the luggage during the reserve. Ryanair warns that any luggage that exceeds the boundaries now defined will be subject to a ‘check-in’ rate on the boarding door.
This decision follows criticism and questions about the size of the cabin and transparency in the collection of luggage supplements.
What changes to those traveling from Portugal
Passengers boarding Portuguese airports such as Lisbon, Porto and Faro will be able to enjoy the new dimensions of hand luggage.
Each passenger keeps a piece that should fit under the seat, but those who want to take a second suitcase can do so through the boarding priority service.
The measure aims to make shipping procedures faster and reduce conflicts, allowing Portuguese travelers to easily adapt to the company’s rules.
Sanctions in Spain
The announcement coincides with a period when the company has been in scrutiny by the Spanish authorities. The Ministry of Consumption of Spain fined five airlines, including Ryanair, for abusive practices, such as the collection of additional fees for hand baggage, the impossibility of paying cash or non -attribution of contiguous seats for dependent companions.
The fine to Ryanair ascended to 109 million euros, but was cautiously suspended by the Madrid Superior Court of Justice, while awaiting a final decision.
Ryanair’s executive president Michael O’leary recently said in Brussels that he trusts the reversal of the sanction, noting that the Court of Justice of the European Union has already commented in 2014 on the issue of cabin luggage.
At the time, the court ruled that companies can freely set the price of the bags, but passengers have the right to carry a large enough piece to their personal belongings.
More comfort and less conflicts on boarding
According to the carrier’s statement, the update of meters at European airports also aims to reduce conflicts during boarding and allow passengers to adapt more easily to the company’s rules.
According to Ryanair, passengers should be benefited by this change, which expands the space available for hand luggage and offers greater flexibility at no additional costs, provided the limits are respected.
The measure is part of a broader strategy of the low-cost company, which seeks to reconcile operational efficiency with greater convenience for passengers. The increased size of hand luggage should make trips more practical, avoiding delays in boarding and eventual unforeseen charges.
First Low Cost Company to implement larger meters
With this change, according to Ryanair becomes the first low-cost company to uniformly implement higher luggage meters in so many airports, while maintaining the possibility of paid services that allow you to carry more luggage.
Passengers who travel frequently are already beginning to feel the positive impact of this measure, which promises to simplify the transport of personal items during airway travel.
