Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday accused the Lebanese Hezbollah movement of “serious violations” of the ceasefire in Lebanon after an attack on Israeli military positions. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the AFP and Reuters agencies.
“Hezballah’s shelling of Har Dov is a serious violation of the ceasefire and Israel will respond strongly to it. We are committed to respecting the ceasefire and responding to any violation by Hezbollah, no matter how minor or major,” said the Israeli prime minister in a statement. He was referring to the disputed area on the Israeli-Lebanese border known as Shebaa Farms, AFP specifies.
Israel was also accused of violating the ceasefire on Monday. The Israeli army has confirmed that it has carried out several attacks in Lebanon in the last 24 hours. They were a reaction to Hezbollah’s actions representing a “threat to Israel”, but were also a violation of the agreement between Israel and Lebanon.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah went into effect last Wednesday morning. During the 60-day ceasefire, Israel pledged to withdraw from southern Lebanon and Hezbollah to move its fighters and heavy weapons north of the Lítani River. The ceasefire is being monitored by a US-led monitoring group. The contracting parties have basically been accusing each other of violating the ceasefire since the beginning of its validity.
After both sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire on Monday, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said the ceasefire was in place. “If we receive reports of potential violations, we have a mechanism that we have put in place with the French government to investigate these potential violations, assess whether they are indeed violations, and then engage with the parties to ensure that they do not recur. “ Miller said.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced that carries out attacks on “terrorist targets in Lebanon”.
