Number 1 of Brazil in women’s tennis, Bia Haddad Maia Returns to WTA 500 from Seoul this Tuesday (09/16) to defend the title won in 2024, its last cup in the professional circuit of simple. The Brazilian faces South Korean Dayeon Back, 307th in the world, around 7:30 am (Brasília time), in a duel that will be broadcast on Disney+ (streaming).
Currently occupying the 27th position in the ranking, Bia needs to repeat last year’s outcome so as not to lose points and risk falling at the top 30. The competition will feature five Top 20 players, including the world’s number 2, Iga Swiatek.
Bia’s season has ups and downs: after nine consecutive defeats between Australian Open and Madrid’s Masters 1000, she again showed good performance at SP Open, but was eliminated in the quarterfinals in Sao Paulo, in a defeat to Mexican Renata Zarazua.
