Gold samples valued at € 600,000, about R $ 3.7 million, were stolen from the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. The museum warns that, besides the financial value, the pieces have a “incalculable” scientific and historical value.
The crime occurred at dawn on Tuesday (16), when criminals used tools such as grinders and torch to invade the Gallery of Geology and Mineralogy. The cleaning team discovered the theft hours later, finding the disappearance of four to six samples.
The director of the museum, Emmanuel Skoulios, said that the group acted with planning and knowledge, specifically choosing these pieces for the importance for the national collection.

This theft is part of a recent series of theft in French museums. In early September, the Adrien-Doubouché Museum in Limoges had three objects evaluated by over € 6.5 million, including Chinese porcelains considered to be national treasures.
The museum’s mineralogy gallery remains closed while police are investigating the case. Safety has been reinforced and the collection is being revised to avoid further damage.
