WHO rejects speaks of Trump who associates acetaminophen with autism

World Health Organization and European Union reaffirm drug safety for pregnant women

The WHO (World Health Organization) and the European Union refuted this 3rd (23.Set.2025) the idea that the use of acetaminophen in pregnancy leads to the development of autism.

The association had been made the day before (Republican Party) in an interview with the White House. The president of the United States told pregnant women avoid the painkiller.

EMA (European Medicines Agency) said that “The evidence available did not find a connection between the use of paracetamol during pregnancy and autism. ”

EMA’s medical director, Steffen Thirdstru, also pointed out that “Paracetamol remains an important option for treating pain or fever in pregnant women. Our advice is based on a rigorous assessment of available scientific data and we are not evident that taking acetaminophen during pregnancy causes autism in children”.

WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic addressed the theme during a press conference in Geneva. “Evidence remains inconsistent”said Jasarevic, explaining that some studies have suggested possible association, but later research did not confirm these results. “This lack of reproducibility really requires caution when drawing causal conclusions”these.

On Monday (22.Set.2025), the British Health Regulatory agency had already been ensuring the safety of the medicine. The authority stressed that “Paracetamol is recommended as a first choice painkiller for pregnant womenAnd that the “Recommendations on drugs during pregnancy are based on a rigorous assessment of the best scientific evidence availables”.

At the press conference at the White House, Trump also questioned the calendar of children’s vaccination. He suggested that vaccines were not applied simultaneously or so soon. He suggested a relationship between children’s vaccines and autism, contrary to the current scientific consensus.

Jasarevic was emphatic in stating that vaccines do not cause autism and reiterated their fundamental role in preserving life. “This is something that science has proven, and should not really be questioned”said the WHO spokesman.
