Trump approached Lula behind the scenes in a ‘friendly’ way and said ‘we need to talk,’ says Planalto assistants

Possibility of the meeting caught Itamaraty and Planalto by surprise; format still needs to be defined

Assistants of the president who accompanied the presidential entourage in account of the Young Pan that the US President took the initiative to tell the Brazilian head of state that they “needed to talk.” Both met in the background of the stage where the speeches of the UN General Assembly took place, shortly after Lula finished speech in the podium.

According to reports from advisors to Lula’s entourage, when the Brazilian president arrived at anteroasala, Trump was already there, waiting for his turn to speak. The American president then approached and said friendly that they both needed to talk. Lula agreed promptly, proved to be open and said to mark. The US president then suggested that they agreed next week.

The possibility of the meeting took Lula’s advisers, members of Planalto and, by surprise and claim that the details still need to be right. Trump told in his speech that the conversation lasted 39 seconds, that both hugged and that rolled a “chemistry” with Lula.

“We didn’t have much time to talk about here, we talked, we had a good conversation and agreed to meet next week, if it’s in your interest. He looked like a very nice man, actually, he liked me, I would do it. And I just do business with people I like,” said Trump.
