It is known when it will open the first wave pool for surfing in Portugal and this will be the price to pay to enter

Portugal will receive its first surfing wave pool, located in Óbidos, scheduled for inauguration in late 2026. The project is from Surfers Cove and will be the first structure of the genre in the European Union, using Wavegarden technology. Tickets for access to sessions will range from 45 to 120 euros, depending on the time of year and difficulty level.

According to the New in West Portal, the project’s official presentation held last Wednesday, October 1, next to the Royal Óbidos Scenic Resort. The event was attended by investors, surf industry and local authorities, including surfer Kanoa Igarashi and Secretary of State for Sports, Pedro Dias.

Innovative and diverse complex

The infrastructure will occupy five hectares and will feature a 1.3 hectares pool equipped with 46 Wavegarden Cove technology modules. According to the same source, it will be possible to generate up to 1,000 waves per hour, with more than 25 different types, adapted to beginner and experienced surfers.

In addition to the pool, writes the same site that Surf Village will include a four -star tourist village with 56 bungalows and a capacity of 144 beds. The space will also feature restaurant, surf store, skate parks, padel fields and tennis, gym and surf school.

Accessibility and training for all

Marcelo Martins, Surf Operations Manager of Surfers Cove, explained in the presentation of the project that the complex was designed for families and new practitioners, allowing to start surfing children in a safe environment. Adds the publication that athletes will be able to train consistently, without depending on ocean conditions.

Surfer Kanoa Igarashi highlighted the advantage of the pool for intensive training, explaining that it already surfs up to 100 waves a day in a similar structure, something that would take a week at sea. It refers to the same source that this consistency will be useful for high competition athletes and young talents.

Prices and hours of sessions

According to it, access tickets will have an average price of 65 euros. In summer, a session with higher difficulty waves can cost about 120 euros, while in winter the price goes down to approximately 45 euros.

Pedro Dias stressed that the project reinforces Portugal as a surf destination throughout the year and is an example of a good application of community funds within the Compete 2030. It adds the publication that Surf Village will also contribute to the tourist and economic development of the West region.
