Quilombolas contest company consultation linked to Vale – 10/07/2025 – Panel

Leaders of the Gesteira community in Minas Gerais expressed contrary to the possibility of the federal government signing a contract with a company that had and as clients to elaborate consultation methodology within the judicial agreement of (MG).

The technical cooperation agreement of R $ 8.8 million would be signed between the Ministry of Racial Equality and H&P. The company has also worked for the company, created in 2016 to manage the process of repairing the damage caused by the breach of the Fundão dam, which left 19 dead.

The negotiations are advanced, according to the process available in the electronic information system. The Ministry’s legal advice prepared, on September 16, to seem favorable to the choice of the company.

H&P, however, faces resistance from the community. “The federal government hires H&P, which for me is to hire the mining companies, to make reparation and anthropological report of our territories? It’s wrong. This is criminal,” he says. “There is no such thing that the fox take care of the chicken coop. What repair this is the money returning to the mining companies.”

Sought, the ministry reported not having a signed contract or partnership with the company. “At the moment, the ministry evaluates which is the best alternative and the most appropriate institutional instrument to ensure the fulfillment of the obligations of its competences provided for in the agreement,” he said.

H&P claimed to have 43 years of experience with governments, foundations, NGOs, private companies, international organizations and communities, “with work oriented by scientific evidence, technical rigor and integrity control in all stages.”

“In performances with indigenous peoples and traditional communities, H&P maintains technical independence, fully complying with the rules and guidelines that ensure listening and respect for collective rights, cultural specificities and ways of life of these populations,” he said in a statement. “To date, H&P has not signed a contract with the Ministry of Racial Equality.”
