The action was filed by deputies Macaé Evaristo, Ana Paula Siqueira, Andréia de Jesus and Leninha, who are part of the bloc opposing the government in the Legislative Assembly of Minas.
The column contacted the Government of Minas Gerais again by email this Wednesday (22), but there was no response until the publication of the text.
According to the representation sent to the Prosecutor’s Office, the expression “white envy” is identified by experts in linguistics, racial sociology and human rights as a manifestation of linguistics.
It is thus interpreted as associating white with a good or acceptable feeling, while leaving implicit the association of black/black with negative or bad.
“It is a linguistic mechanism that reproduces and reinforces the structural racial hierarchy present in Brazilian society since colonization”, says the deputies’ action.
The document also states that Simões nor the government have issued any statement of “retraction, clarification or recognition of the racial connotation of the expression” to date.
The deputies ask that, if a criminal offense is found, the Public Prosecutor’s Office should file a complaint for the alleged commission of crimes of racial insult or racism, with a possible increase in the penalty as he is a public agent performing his role.
Simões’ speech took place during the Medal of Inconfidência ceremony, in Ouro Preto, in which Tarcísio was honored with the main honor.
