Department of Health opens inquiry after report of mistreatment in municipal kennel

The Municipal Health Department of Tarauacá released a note this Thursday (8) about the complaint made by councilor Veinha do Valmar regarding a case of mistreatment of a dog in the city hall’s kennel. The animal was found with serious injuries to its snout and head, in a weakened state, and remains hospitalized in a veterinary clinic.

In the statement, the ministry states that it received the news “with deep sadness and consternation” and highlighted that measures have already been adopted to determine responsibilities. Among the measures is the immediate establishment of an internal investigation to investigate what happened and the holding of a meeting with the sectors involved to reinforce animal care protocols.

The secretariat also informed that the dog is receiving veterinary assistance, with continuous monitoring, and reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to maintaining surveillance and sheltering of animals under guardianship.

UNDERSTAND THE CASE:

A selection process was recently carried out to hire a veterinarian, with the aim of strengthening care in the control of zoonoses, including castration and population control actions.

“The Secretariat is available to provide all necessary clarifications and reaffirms its commitment to transparency, diligence and ethics in public management”, concludes the note signed by Secretary Romário Costa.
