With 60 days left until the Miami Invitational, young Brazilian plans historic duel against the world number 1
The young Brazilian phenomenon just 19 years old, lives with the expectation of facing the best tennis player today, number 1 in the world, at the Miami Invitational, an exhibition tournament organized by Unified Events. The duel is scheduled for December 8th, at loanDepot park, the stadium of the Miami Marlins, from Major League Baseball (MLB) — and promises to be the first tennis game in history held at the location.
“Having the opportunity to receive the experience of these great players is the main thing for me. Even in a small conversation we can make a great exchange. It will be a day with a lot of teachings, it will be super cool, especially with a guy like him, with whom I have always had a good relationship”, said Fonseca about the Spaniard — who has already won six Grand Slam titles and is the current champion of the ATP 500 in Tokyo, Japan.
The Brazilian also highlighted the admiration he feels for Alcaraz and the impact that the Spaniard has on the new generation of world tennis.
“He really encourages us to believe and stay motivated to be better players. He is a tennis player who represents very well a way of taking things calmly, always smiling, but at the same time dedicating himself and working hard”, he analyzed.
Expectations for Brazilian fans in Miami
With a large Brazilian community living in Florida, especially in Miami, Fonseca believes that the green and yellow public will be present in force in the stands at loanDepot park.
“I believe it will be very noisy, with a very cool vibe. We both really enjoy playing with the fans, the entertainment, so I think it will be fun. I hope there will be more fans on my side and that there will be a lot of Brazilians present, but I’m sure the vibe on the court will be good anyway”, added the tennis player.
Event brings together big names in world tennis
In addition to the highly anticipated clash between Alcaraz and Fonseca, the Miami Invitational will also feature a women’s duel between Amanda Anisimova, number 4 in the world and recent champion of the WTA 1000 in Beijing, and Emma Raducanu, champion of the US Open 2021 and current number 30 in the rankings.
The event will start at 7pm (local time), with gates opening at 5:30pm, and will feature two singles matches, played in the best of three sets, with a 10-point tiebreak in case a third set is needed.
