The Minister of Justice, , said that Lula’s decision to appoint a member of the Federal Supreme Court in place of Luís Roberto Barroso must be “quick, but well considered”.
“The president [Lula] He has his time, obviously. He has a trip planned abroad [Itália]I believe that this will be decided upon his return”, declared Lewandowski, who is a former minister of the STF, during his participation in an Esfera Brasil forum, in Belém.
He said he was not consulted by Lula about the decision, and stated he had no preference.
“As a Brazilian, a citizen, I want there to be someone sitting in the chair who meets the constitutional requirements. Someone with notable legal knowledge and an unblemished reputation,” he stated.
Today, three names are mentioned as favorites for Barroso’s seat: senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), minister Jorge Messias, from the Federal Attorney General’s Office, and minister Bruno Dantas, from the Federal Court of Auditors.
Lewandowski also said the investigation into what led to the methanol contamination of drinks was still expected to take some time.
“Our biggest problem is identifying the origin of methanol, whether it is vegetable or fossil. There are two distinct lines of investigation. This depends on technical expertise”, he declared.
According to him, the scientific police are analyzing the issue. “We are collecting several samples in different states. The results are not as fast as we want.”
He praised the creation of a testing protocol to identify the presence of methanol in the drink.
Journalist Fábio Zanini traveled at the invitation of Esfera Brasil.
