In 2022, a total of 405.6 thousand new employer companies were registered, resulting in a birth rate of 15.3%. This rate is the highest since 2017. These new companies were responsible for hiring around 1.7 million workers, increasing the participation rate from 4.0% in 2021 to 4.6% the following year. The Commerce sector stood out, representing 39.4% of new openings. With regard to business closures, in 2020, 210.7 thousand deaths of employers were recorded, which corresponds to a rate of 9.0%.
This was the lowest percentage since 2015. Companies that closed their activities were responsible for 2.4% of total formal jobs. Among companies founded in 2021, 79.6% managed to survive their first year of operation. The majority of new employer companies, around 92.7%, had between 1 and 9 employees. Micro-enterprises had an even higher birth rate of 17.6%. Furthermore, high-growth companies, which employed 8.0 million people, represented only 2.6% of the total number of companies in the country, but had a significant impact on the job market.
These high-growth companies generated net revenue of R$3.4 trillion, which is equivalent to 24.3% of the total net revenue of companies with 10 or more employees. The average size of these organizations was 114.2 employees, highlighting their relevance in the economy. Regionally, the Southeast Region concentrated 46.8% of employing companies, standing out as a hub for economic development.
