Ciro Gomes joins the PSDB and aims for Ceará government in 2026

Ozires Pontes, president of the party in the State, announced Gomes’s affiliation on Friday (Oct 17); he was at PDT since 2015

The president of the PSDB in Ceará, confirmed on Friday (October 17, 2025) the affiliation of former governor Ciro Gomes to the party. According to Pontes, Ciro intends to run again for the government of Ceará in the 2026 elections.

In a post on Instagram, Ozires stated that the official announcement of the affiliation will take place next Wednesday (Oct 22), at 9:30 am, at a hotel in Fortaleza. “Ceará wants Ciro again”said Pontes, who is also mayor of Massapê (CE).

The former Peessedebista senator is seen as the fundamental name in convincing Ciro to choose the PSDB, considered by him “the right party”. Ciro had been at PDT since 2015 and had also sent it on Friday (Oct 17).

Ciro contested 4 presidential elections (2022, 2018, 2002 and 1998), of which the last 2 were for the PDT. In 2022, it came in 4th place, with 3% of valid votes, behind (MDB).

Despite recent party movements, Ciro has already stated that he no longer intends to run for President. In September, he declared to Radio Itatiaia: “I don’t want to be a candidate anymore, no. I don’t want to bother voters anymore.”
