Teaching, learning and linoleum: young and old renovate the pensioners’ club together

“Nana, that won’t work!” shouts Otto. Günther Stadler pauses – he was just about to attach the hanger for a wall shelf, directly under the logo of the pensioners’ club on Grünentorgasse in the ninth district. But Otto protests: “That’s where the bank comes from!” The senior taps the top of his skull with the palm of his hand to make it clear: If the board hangs so low, you’ll hit your head when you get up from the couch. Stadler, branch manager of the renovation company ETS in Vienna, is an expert on construction sites. But Otto is the real expert for his club. After all, he is here five times a week. And even when the room has been cleared out for construction work, he knows exactly: This is where the bench will go later. So the shelf needs to be higher.
