Sporting tries to equal provisional leader FC Porto

The Lions, with 19 points, are three points behind the Dragons.

Sporting can today provisionally equal the leader FC Porto, if they triumph in their visit to Tondela, in a game of the ninth round of the I Portuguese Football League, with the ‘dragons’ playing on Monday at Moreirense’s home.

Four days after the home victory over Marseille (2-1), in the Champions League, Sporting, overtaken on Saturday by Benfica, who thrashed Arouca (5-0) at home, seeks to hold on to second place and put pressure on FC Porto, in the visit to Tondela, 17th and penultimate placed, scheduled for 18:00.

The ‘lions’ currently have 19 points, the same as Gil Vicente, who beat Alverca (4-0) at the start of the day, two less than Benfica and three than FC Porto, who visit Moreirense on Monday, in fifth place.

Sporting have won in five of their seven visits to Tondela, who have yet to win at home this season, with two draws and one defeat.

Coming off a Europa League triumph, at home, against Estrela Vermelha, Sporting de Braga (10th) is trying to return to winning ways in the championship, in which they have not won in the last six matches, hosting Casa Pia (14th).

In a meeting between two teams from Minho, Famalicão, sixth placed and coming from three consecutive draws and four games without winning, receives Vitória de Guimarães (ninth), looking to add, for the first time this season, two consecutive victories in the I League.

In the other match of the day, Estoril Praia, 16th and second to last, plays at their stadium with Nacional (11th), who is in the best moment of the season, with two consecutive victories.
