The poor technical condition of the heating element caused a fire in a sheet metal garage in the village of Sučany (Martin district) on Sunday (October 26). The Presidium of the Fire and Rescue Service (HaZZ) informed about it on the social network.
The garage fire was extinguished by professional firefighters from Martin and volunteer firefighters from Sučian and Turian. “Firefighters responding in self-contained breathing apparatus located the fire and then extinguished it with several streams of water while simultaneously dismantling the structure of the garage and cooling the adjacent building. At the same time, during the intervention, the area was monitored with a thermal camera,” the firemen approached the intervention.
They added that as a result of the fire, the owner of the garage suffered direct material damage, preliminarily estimated at 10,000 euros. In this context, the Presidium of HaZZ recommends regular inspection of heating equipment. “Before the start of the heating season, pay attention to checking the technical condition of stoves, heaters, electric radiators or chimneys. Regular maintenance and professional inspection can prevent not only a fire, but also a threat to life and health.” added the firefighters.
