What is “linguistic justice”? It can be that spellings are simplified to make learning a language easier and therefore more inclusive. In the Czech Republic, female speakers are increasingly rejecting the traditional feminine endings of their surnames. But it can also be expressed in such a way that official gibberish becomes generally understandable German. These are a few examples that were the subject of a major EFNIL conference in Vienna last week. The acronym stands for an association of official language institutions in Europe that has existed since 2003 and is responsible for the standardization of the language, but also deals with language policy or the teaching of languages. The aim of EFNIL is to support multilingualism in Europe. This also includes learning from experiences in other languages for questions that raise discussions and problems in your own language. And there are those, just think of gender in this country.
