Rare jaguar cubs are born in São Paulo zoo

Three jaguar cubs with a rare genetic variation were born in a park in Cotiain the metropolitan region of São Paulo. Os, characterized by an increase in melanin, which gives animals a dark color.

The trio is the result of the union of the jaguar Clô, born at the Itaipu zoo, in Paraná, with Rudá, coming from Bioparque do Pará. Both originate from the Cerrado.

The cats are part of an ICMBio conservation program (Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation), whose objective is to guarantee the preservation of species threatened with extinction.

Every birth is a victory for conservation. Melanism is a natural expression of the genetic diversity of jaguars and reinforces their essential role in responsible management and the continuity of the species.
