Tarcísio goes to the STF after criticizing Moraes – 10/28/2025 – Power

The governor of , (Republicans), went to Brasília this Tuesday (28) for meetings with ministers of the (Supreme Federal Court), in a gesture of rapprochement after the crisis

The meetings focus on tax issues involving state interests, but interlocutors highlight that it is an important opportunity to rebuild bridges with the Judiciary.

The first agenda takes place with the minister of the STJ (Superior Court of Justice) Marco Aurélio Bellizze Oliveira, followed by two meetings at the STF: the first with the minister of the Supreme Court and vice-president of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) Kassio Nunes Marques, and the second with the president of the court, .

The governor of São Paulo has always been one of the main interlocutors of Bolsonarism with ministers of the STF, including . Last September 7, however, he called the magistrate a tyrant, in an escalation of tone that coincided with the increase in pressure to become the successor of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) as a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic.

The movement was blamed for imploding these bridges. At the time, ministers privately advocated that he seek out members of the court. The retraction did not occur. The governor’s interlocutors said that the speech on Avenida Paulista was “outburst”, out of character.

Then, at the end of September, Tarcísio stopped going to Minister Fachin’s inauguration as president of the STF, on a day when he was in Brasília, visiting Bolsonaro under house arrest. The decision was criticized even by allies, who felt that he lost the opportunity to act as governor, especially after the misplaced speech about the Bolsonarist act.

This is the governor’s first official meeting with the new president of the STF. In Brasília, Tarcísio will also participate, on Wednesday (29), in the affiliation of deputy Pedro Lupion (PP-PR) to the Republicans, his party. There is no plan to visit Bolsonaro at the moment – to do so, he would need to ask Moraes for permission.

The trip to the federal capital takes place after Tarcísio halted the offensive for the presidential dispute. Despite pressure from business sectors and the political world to run as a candidate, the governor had been the target of radical Bolsonarism, including from the former president’s children, and decided to submerge himself and insist that he will be a candidate for re-election.

Therefore, the trip to Brasília to deal with the interests of the São Paulo government also intends to return to the image of head of the São Paulo Executive, concerned mainly with the interests of the state.

At the Supreme Court, the two planned agendas would be closed, without speeches or official communications on the topics discussed. Kassio did not disclose the reason for the meeting and did not provide any information regarding the conversation.

With Fachin, the official agenda will be about a case being processed in court and under the care of the president. Tarcísio filed a request to suspend an injunction on the collection of ICMS (Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services).

In the action, there is a discussion in which Rodopetro Distribuidora de Petróleo managed to suspend the payment of tax in court. Now the São Paulo government is asking for the collection to be resumed and says that Grupo Refit —which resells Rodopetro’s fuel— already owes R$9.7 billion to the state.

At the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), Tarcísio met with minister Marco Aurélio Bellizze, who had requested a review (more time for analysis) of two actions that interest the state.

One deals with tax issues, the basis for calculating the ITCMD (Tax on Transmission Causa Mortis and Donation of Any Goods or Rights).

Another is related to the possible prescription of compensation actions for material and moral damages caused by state agents in the so-called “May crimes” of 2006, regarding deaths in police actions after attacks by the PCC (First Command of the Capital).
