On the eve of hosting the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (), the city of inaugurated this Saturday (1) two infrastructure works: the requalification of the Port of Outeiro and the modernization of the Belém/Val-de-Cans International Airport. The events were attended by President Luiz Inácio da Silva.

The Port of Outeiro, located 25 km from the center of the capital of Pará, has been completely revitalized. The structure, which had not been operating since 2013, received improvements to the pier, with the installation of new defenses and the modernization of the warehouses. The objective is for the terminal to become a strategic point for the flow of grain production from and from other states in the North, in addition to strengthening cabotage, relieving cargo traffic in the Port of Belém and the local road network.

The International Airport, under the management of the concessionaire Norte da Amazônia Airports (NOA) since September 2023, underwent extensive renovation and expansion. With an investment of R$450 million, the passenger terminal’s capacity almost doubled, jumping from 7.7 million to 13 million passengers per year.

Improvements include the expansion of boarding areas, which have almost tripled in size, and the creation of five new positions for aircraft on the apron. The commercial space was expanded by 40%, and new elevators, escalators and air conditioning systems were installed. According to the concessionaire, the interventions were completed almost a year ahead of the contractual deadline, leaving the airport prepared for the high demand expected during COP30.

In addition to the port and airport, Belém is also preparing for the conference with the inauguration of the Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park, a project focused on transforming local biodiversity into sustainable businesses. These works are part of a set of investments that exceed R$4 billion, aimed at preparing the capital of Pará to be the center of global climate discussions.
