Five German winter sports enthusiasts dead after an avalanche in South Tyrol


Sulden – According to the Italian mountain rescue service, five German mountaineers died in an avalanche in South Tyrol. The holidaymakers were hit by the snow avalanche while climbing to the more than 3,500 meter high Vertainspitze in the Ortler Mountains. Two men and a woman have already been recovered dead. Two other Germans who are still missing are also “certainly” dead, a spokesman said. The search had to be interrupted on Saturday evening due to darkness.
