A 47-year-old man died and around 40 people were injured after the metal structure of a hangar collapsed during a university party in Regente Feijó, in the interior of , in the early hours of this Sunday (2). The accident was caused by a strong windstorm that hit the region. The event, organized by the medical student graduation committee, took place at the Aeropark Clube de Voo Desportivo. At around 2 am, gusts of wind that reached 95 km/h, according to the State Civil Defense, caused the structure to collapse.

The fatal victim was hit by a tree branch during the storm, suffered head trauma and did not survive. The other victims were rescued by teams from the Fire Department, Military Police and Civil Defense and taken to the Regional Hospital and Santa Casa de Presidente Prudente. Most suffered minor injuries and have already been discharged, but three people remained hospitalized.

In a joint statement, the graduation committee and the company hired to organize the event, called Euphoria, regretted what happened, which they classified as a “serious accident that surprised everyone present”. Organizers stated that the priority is to provide support and solidarity to the victims and their families. The Civil Police and state Civil Defense are monitoring the case and providing support to local teams in investigating the facts.
