In Prague’s St. Vitus Cathedral, the last farewell to the archbishop emeritus Cardinal Dominik Duka, who died at the age of 82, will be held on Saturday. The ceremony was attended by the highest constitutional officials, including President Petr Pavl and his predecessors Zeman and Klaus, as well as the Slovak government delegation.
In Prague’s Cathedral of Saints Vitus, Wenceslas and Vojtech, the last farewell to the archbishop emeritus of Prague, Cardinal Dominik Duka, who died on November 4 at the age of 82, will be held on Saturday. The ceremony celebrated by the current Archbishop of Prague, Jan Graubner, was attended by several personalities from public and political life, including the Slovak government delegation. Five military planes flew over the Prague temple in a cross formation
The ceremony began shortly after 11 a.m. to the sound of the Requiem in B minor by the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák, during which the liturgical procession entered the cathedral. Before the mass began, five military planes flew over the Prague cathedral in a cross formation.
The ceremony is concelebrated by the bishops of the Czech and Moravian dioceses together with cardinals and bishops from abroad, including ten Slovak Catholic bishops. Archdiocesan priests and priests from the Dominican order, to which Duka belonged, also joined.
Duka was the last living cardinal in the Czech Republic
Czech President Petr Pavel and his two predecessors Miloš Zeman and Václav Klaus also took part in the ceremony. Also present are the chairman of the ANO movement Andrej Babiš, the chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament (PSP) of the Czech Republic and the head of the SPD movement Tomio Okamura, the leader of the KDU-ČSL Marek Výborný or the actress Jiřina Bohdalová and the director Jiří Strach.
Several Slovak government representatives also came to Prague to honor the memory of Cardinal Duka. The last farewell was attended by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the SR Juraj Blanár, the Minister of Health Kamil Šaško, the Minister of Investments, Regional Development and Informatization of the SR Samuel Migaľ and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture of the SR Tibor Bernaťák.
Duka died on November 4 at the age of 82. He was the last living cardinal in the Czech Republic. He served as Archbishop of Prague from 2010 to 2022.
