Botafogo asks CPI to postpone Luiz Henrique’s testimony – 12/09/2024 – Brasília Hoje

Botafogo asked the Senate Sports Betting CPI to postpone in-person testimony from striker Luiz Henrique, scheduled for this Tuesday (10). The club claims that it is counting on him to compete in the Intercontinental, formerly the Club World Cup, in Qatar, starting on Wednesday (11).

In a letter last Wednesday (4), Botafogo told the CPI that going to the Senate “would greatly harm the athlete’s own career, as well as SAF Botafogo itself, which would find itself in a situation in which it would lose its main player to one of the most important games in its history – and, probably, of the championship as a whole, since it was played in an eliminatory format.”

In the same document, Botafogo rejects the hypothesis of remote testimony. “It is inescapable that participating in a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on the eve of a match and championship of such relevance certainly affects the athlete’s emotional state and, obviously, his full performance on the field.”

The club asks that Luiz Henrique’s testimony be scheduled for after December 20th, the scheduled date for the squad’s return to Brazil, but when the Senate will already be in recess. Summoned as a witness, the athlete does not have the prerogative to choose, or not, to testify.

As shown by Sheethe is being investigated in Spain, in judicial cooperation with the Public Ministry of Goiás, on suspicion of manipulating results. When contacted at the time, the player’s advisors declined to comment. Botafogo did not respond to a request for comment.
