The change will be made to around 10 streets in a city in Northern Ireland. They will lose the name “Prince Andrew”, but the connection to the royal family will be maintained, in honor of a “strong woman and leader”.
A municipality in Northern Ireland decided to change the name of several streets titled “Prince Andrew”, after the British royal house announced that Elizabeth II’s son would being handled by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
HAS one of the Carrickfergus councilors explained that the change had already been considered in 2019, but that the worsening of the controversies now drove the decision.
“Unfortunately, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s actions have made it impossible for this council to continue to honor him as we have done to date.”
Carrickfergus wants, however, to maintain the connection to the royal family and, therefore, these streets will be called “Queen Elizabeth II”in honor of a “strong woman and leader in a world dominated by men”.
This change will, however, bring some complications for the residents of these 10 streets, which will be forced to change address in services such as banking, telecommunications companies, electricity and even driving licenses.
The Chamber has already said that it will evaluate the possibility of cover any costs that residents may have due to the changes.
