Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, was elected president of Flamengo after a vote that took place this Monday (9/12). Chapa Azul (Raça, Amor e Paixão), owned by the businessman, won this Monday’s election (09/12) with 1,731 votes. The inauguration will be for the three-year period 2025/2027 on December 18th. The voting period took place from 8 am (Brasília time) to 9 pm, in Gávea. The victory of Bap, from the opposition, prevents the third consecutive term of office for the group that makes up the purple ticket, led by the current vice-president, Rodrigo Dunshee, and supported by the current president, Rodolfo Landim.

The current ticket received 1,166 votes. The yellow ticket, by Maurício Gomes de Mattos, ended with 363 votes. The election had three candidates in the dispute.

With Bap’s triumph, Portuguese José Boto should take over as Flamengo’s new football director. Regarding the coach for the beginning of the management, Bap’s idea is to keep Filipe Luís.

Who is Luiz Eduardo Baptista, aka Bap, Flamengo’s new president?

Luiz Eduardo Baptista was vice-president of External Relations during Rodolfo Landim’s first term and was also part of Chapa Azul, which led Eduardo Bandeira de Mello to the presidency of Flamengo.

He currently holds the position of president of the club’s Board of Directors.

At the beginning of his journey at Flamengo, Bap was legal vice-president under the management of Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, between 2013 and 2018. A civil engineer with 15 years of experience in the pay TV sector in Brazil, he had the support of Kléber Leite, former president of the club, in the election.

Luiz Eduardo Baptista highlighted the following promises in his campaign for the presidency of Flamengo:

  • Deepen the professionalization of the club: implement more qualified and efficient management in all areas, not just football.
  • Construction of our own stadium: making the dream of an exclusive stadium for Flamengo come true.
  • Maintain the club without joining the SAF (Sociedade Anônima de Futebol): preserve the current administrative structure.
  • Seek sporting hegemony: consolidate Flamengo as a reference on the national and international scene.

How did the Flamengo elections work?

They were eligible to vote as members of the club with at least three years of association life. The number was around 5,880 people. Only Flamengo members who are part of the General Assembly had the right to vote.

For the first time, the Rubro-Negro election featured electronic voting machines, provided by the TRE-RJ (Regional Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro).
