Nemo sings ‘The Code’ in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 final
Nemo went to the event in 2024, even with the presence of Israel. This year there is a different stance. “It no longer belongs to me.”
Nemo was visibly happy and excited when he realized he had won the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
Switzerland were back on top, 36 years after their last victory. And Nemo took the trophy and went home.
Now, a year and a half later, the young singer has decided that he no longer wants the trophy for that victory in 2024.
This Thursday, the 26-year-old Swiss announced that will return the trophy. Yes, because participating in next year’s festival.
“Today I no longer feel like this trophy belongs on my shelf”, begins by justifying Nemo, in .
“Eurovision says it represents unity, inclusion and dignity for all people. But Israel’s participation shows that these ideals are at odds with the organizers’ decisions“, he complains.
The singer and author of , the winning song at the festival last year, recalls that Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Iceland have already announced that they will not go to the Eurovision Song Contest 2026.
“When entire countries withdraw, it must be clear that something is deeply wrong“, continued Nemo.
The trophy has already been placed in a box that will be sent to the headquarters of the European Broadcasting Union, which is located precisely in Switzerland, in Geneva.
In 2024, when Nemo participated and won Eurovision, Israel also participated in that event – when the war in Gaza had started 7 months earlier. In the final of that event, the Israeli Eden Golan and her team achieved 2nd place in the public vote, but only came in 5th place.
