Ex-president Zuzana Čaputová has been in the USA for several months. Her steps were directed to Stanford University, where she works as a visiting member of the Institute for International Studies. Her two daughters already made her stay near the big puddle more pleasant, and her partner Juraj Rizman arrived to see her before the start of Advent.
He enjoys America to the fullest and has already published several posts from the places he visited. A trip to the national park will resonate in Rizman for a long time. “Muir Woods National Monument – a unique site under the protection of the US National Park Service – which consists of 97 hectares of preserved old-growth coast redwood forests. The picture shows a section of a tree that – determined on the basis of tree rings – began to grow at this site in 909 AD. When he fell in 1930, he was a respectable 1021 years old,” he marveled on Instagram.
In addition to nature, he is also fascinated by technological progress, which he witnesses in the USA. “I was born under communism, in the era of black-and-white television, telephone booths, fixed networks and the first walkmans and calculators available. My grandfather showed me my first computer – it was a room full of computing equipment that couldn’t do as much as the cell phone I’m writing this post on today can do. The internet and e-mail didn’t take off until I was basically a grown man. Something like an autonomous car – a robotic vehicle without a driver – that was pure science fiction for me. Until now…” began Juraj.
He tried driving in a car without a driver in the most populated city in the state of California. “Hundreds of autonomous taxis operate in San Francisco, so we also moved around the city in these driverless cars – inflated with modern technologies and controlled by artificial intelligence. I’m not a tech freak – I’m rather careful and conservative in these things – but I have to admit that it was an extraordinary and fascinating experience for me too.” he admitted honestly.
“It’s amazing (and for many of us, hard to understand) how fast science and technology are moving forward today – and how something that we couldn’t even imagine a few years ago, works normally today, drives in city traffic and provides services to the general public like any other taxi company. I don’t know what the future will be – if it will bring us more good than bad – but it was interesting to touch it,” the partner of the former head of state added in the end.
