The Brazilian Navy began an operation in the Lins Complex, in the north of Rio de Janeiro, in the early hours of this Thursday (12).
The action takes place two days after doctor Gisele Mendes de Souza e Mello was hit by a gunshot inside the Marcílio Dias Naval Hospital.
According to the Navy, the operation has no end date. The purpose of the occupation, according to the institution, is to guarantee the safety of the crew and hospital users.
The action takes place with the presence of marines, in the Navy’s area of jurisdiction, within a perimeter of approximately 1.3 kilometers.
During the morning, the local population was surprised by the presence of armored vehicles on the streets of the community.
On social media, some residents left comments about the action. “Marines in the Lins complex with several armored vehicles,” wrote a resident on X.
“Operation ‘revenge’ by the Brazilian Navy starting now in Complexo do Lins”, another resident commented in a more critical tone, shortly after 6am.
