Clogged sink. How do vinegar and baking soda work?
Baking soda, but, importantly, it will not damage the pipes. It is a brilliant and ecological way to unclog a drain. Its operation is based on several mechanisms that effectively dissolve and remove impurities blocking the drain. Combined with vinegar, it will cope with most blockages that appear in pipes. How does it work? Well, baking soda is an alkali, which means that it reacts with acids, neutralizing them. When combined with vinegar, a chemical reaction occurs, resulting in the formation of carbon dioxide, which in turn causes the mixture to foam. The resulting foam helps to detach and flush dirt from the pipes. What’s more, baking soda has emulsifying properties, which means it helps break down fat into smaller particles that are easier to rinse off.
