Have you ever thought about the refrigerator as a place that needs to be… beautified? Fridgescaping – an internet trend – has become a global phenomenon, with fridges around the world being turned into works of art.
Fridgescaping – more than just organizing the fridge
Trends on Tik Tok and Instagram can amaze. From socially necessary, confidence-boosting #bodypositive videos, which destroy the myth of a slim figure as the only good and valuable one, to culinary viral videos with interesting, simple recipes, thanks to which you can easily diversify your menu. Psychological ways to find out if a relationship has a future by using a short test on an unsuspecting partner are also popular.
Recently, videos from the #cleantok series have become very popular, in which you can watch perfect women take care of their homes, while learning tricks to help you organize things in the bathroom or kitchen.
However, many women who are obsessed with cleaning and beautifying their living space have gone even further.
- „Fridgescaping“, that is, organizing and beautifying the inside of the refrigerator, is a big wave on social networks.
- The name comes from the words “fridge”, which means a refrigerator, and “scaping”, which is supposed to mean “modeling, landscaping”.
In addition to the well-known trend pouring milk and juices into aesthetic glasses, sorting washed fruits and vegetables in special acrylic drawers designed for refrigerators and using tools to prolong the freshness of butter (butter bell, food containers with vents and special containers for baking soda, which absorbs unwanted odors in the refrigerator ) on they decorate the interiors of refrigerators with mirrors, photos and even… live flowers.
A refrigerator “furnished” as a mini room
Kathy Perdue is an informal creator of fridgescaping. She decided it was time to “take care” of the inside of the fridge! And she showed her fans ideas for beautifying her – a butter ball, artistic carafes for drinks and special containers for food.
- Other online creatives followed her example and created a trend.
- This led to the fact that the shelves of the refrigerator began to be considered as separate rooms.
So – instead of fridgescaping fans limiting themselves to putting yellow cheese in a transparent container, they suggest decorating the container with their own hands. With signatures or exchange it for a ceramic one, preferably with a figurine or mini-sculpture. Fruits and vegetables land in decorative baskets, arranged similarly to street stalls.
It is also important to pay attention to the color arrangement.
- The idea of ”equipping” the shelves in the refrigerator is to make you feel happy when you open the door and awaken the desire to eat healthy foods.
It is fashionable to look for it interesting retro vases in which you can place bunches of parsley or chives, ancient bottles in which juice is poured, and also to find a place for decorative non-food accessories in the refrigerator among the food.
Vases with fresh flowers are almost a must in a beautifully “decorated” refrigerator. Mirrors in antique frames, family photos or small vintage paintings are also welcome to add style. In some videos with the hashtag #fridgescaping, it is hard to see the food at first glance. The abundance of animal figures, frames and flowers is more associated with an exhibition similar to the one we see above the fireplace or in special glass showcases.
Do you need a beautifully decorated refrigerator for something?
Why actually “equip” the refrigerator?
- According to fridgescaping advocates, we also eat with our eyes – so the prettier the food looks, the more likely we are to reach for it.
If we display a fabulous display case with healthy products, there is a much greater chance that we will reach for them first instead of unhealthy snacks full of empty calories and fat.
- In addition, refrigerator interior care fans believe that if we decorate rooms, bathrooms, arrange dressers and cabinets under sinks, why not bring an artistic element to the place where people look most often?

A journalist from the New York Times in his article on this phenomenon he stated that:
“some artists create on canvas – others in refrigerators”.
And it is hard to disagree with that. After all, refined and well-thought-out arrangements do not have to be limited to rooms and gardens only.
- Opponents, however, criticize the use of cold rooms for unnecessary decoration – they mention the difficulty of getting to the desired product, nervousness when something is moved or broken.
Despite the division between those who do not fully understand the respect for fridgescaping and those who consider it a hobby and great pride, the facts are undeniable – the number of people interested in this phenomenon is still growing and the trend has already collected hundreds of thousands of videos, in which women brag about the results of decorating their refrigerators.
