Republican sent soldiers to these three cities in what he described as an offensive against irregular immigration and crime during the first year of his second term.
The president of the , , announced this Wednesday (31) that he will withdraw National Guard troops from Chicago, Los Angeles and Portland, after a series of legal setbacks related to his repression measures in cities run by Democrats.
The Republican sent soldiers to those three cities in what he described as an offensive against irregular immigration and crime during the first year of his second term. Local leaders rejected these measures and classified them as authoritarian excess, which is why they filed a series of lawsuits in court.
Last week, the Supreme Court ruled that the government had not presented a legal basis justifying the mobilization of the National Guard in Chicago, which is only permitted under American law in exceptional circumstances.
“We are withdrawing the National Guard from Chicago, Los Angeles and Portland despite the fact that CRIME has been largely reduced thanks to the presence of these great patriots in those cities and for that reason ONLY,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
The president said that these three cities “would have disappeared if it were not for the intervention of the Federal Government”. “We will come back, perhaps in a very different and stronger form, when crime starts to skyrocket again. It’s just a matter of time!”, Trump added.
