The worst bread spread that dietitians and healthy living specialists regularly warn againstis a product that many Poles have great sentiment for.
It may be associated with childhood and is still easily accessible today. You will find it in every store, a it’s about processed cheese: do which tempts with its colorful packaging and creamy consistency. However, it is better not to put it in the basket, because it is one of the most processed products.
Unfortunately Processed cheese has little in common with cheese in the classic sense of the word. It is a cheese-like product – highly processed, made by melting post-production cheese residues with the addition of water, fat and emulsifying salts.(and not as a result of natural fermentation or maturation).
The whole thing is heated to a high temperature and mixed to obtain a product with a uniform consistencywhich is then formed into the shape of e.g. a triangle, a patch or a circle.
You only need to read the ingredients of processed cheese to realize that it is one of the worst bread spreads. There are phosphates, sodium citrates, alarming amounts of salt and flavor enhancers, as well as numerous flavors, thickeners and stabilizers.
The nutritional value of processed cheese is negligible, so don’t believe the inscriptions that say it’s a “high quality product”. It is highly processed, high in calories and does not keep you full for long. No wonder dietitians and nutrition experts warn against it.
They advise avoiding processed cheese in your diet. Clinical dietitian Anna Jedrej mentioned on Instagram the negative effects of consuming trans fats, salt, phosphates and other artificial ingredients in processed cheese. They may disturb the intestinal microflora and hinder the absorption of calcium or iron.
Instead of processed cheese, it is worth choosing other bread additives. A healthier substitute may be, among others: cottage cheese, which is a great source of protein and calcium, is filling and contains less salt.
Yellow cheese with a short composition, ricotta and even feta will also work well, as they enhance the taste of dishes, although they contain a lot of natural salt.so you need to eat it in moderation.
