Chelsea started 2026 without a manager. This Thursday (1st), the English club announced the dismissal of Enzo Maresca, the Italian coach who led the team to win the first edition of the Club World Cup, in July last year.
After the title, the London team started the English Championship well, but the performance was not sustained. In December, they won just two of the eight games they played.
In addition to the drop in performance, English newspapers reported that Maresca’s relationship with the board deteriorated after the 2-2 home draw with Bournemouth, on the 30th.
With Chelsea, in addition to the World Cup, he won the Conference League in 2025. The 45-year-old coach had arrived at the club in June 2024.
“With important objectives still up for grabs in four competitions, including qualification for the Champions League, Enzo and the club believe that a change offers the team the best chance of getting back on track for the season,” the club said in a statement.
