The majority of Brazilians believe that former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is in prison due to his own actions and those of his family, according to a Genial/Quaest survey released this Thursday (1st).
According to the survey, 32% of those interviewed stated that the damage to the electronic ankle bracelet directly contributed to the arrest. Another 21% believe that the reason would be political persecution by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) or Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
The risk of fleeing abroad was highlighted by 16% of those interviewed, while 4% attributed the arrest to the vigil organized by the former president’s son, senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), in front of his father’s residence.
Among those who believe that the arrest occurred due to damage to the electronic ankle bracelet, 44% are voters of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and 51% identify as left-wing, but did not vote for Lula in the last elections. On the right, 18% are Bolsonaro supporters and 23% do not consider themselves Bolsonaro voters. Among independents, this percentage is 29%.
Only 5% of left-wing voters believe that Bolsonaro is a victim of political persecution. Among right-wing voters, this rate rises to 41%, while among independents it reaches 16%.
