Lula’s new Justice Minister changes three secretariats – 01/28/2026 – Brasília Hoje

The Minister of Justice and Public Security, , promoted changes in the command of three more departments in the department. This Wednesday (28), he also begins a schedule of meetings with members of the Judiciary and Congress.

Among the changes, the minister appointed jurist Paulo Modesto to head the Secretariat of Legislative Affairs, replacing Marivaldo Pereira.

Modesto is a professor of Administrative Law at the Federal University of Bahia, president of the Brazilian Institute of Public Law and member of the State of Bahia.

Lawyer and professor Ricardo Morishita Wada was appointed to take over the National Consumer Secretariat. He will replace professor Paulo Pereira, who has led the department since September 2025.

Professor and researcher Daniel Hirata was appointed to the position of special advisor to the Minister of Justice. According to the ministry, it should contribute to strengthening public policies aimed at preventing, confronting and structurally understanding organized crime.

The choice, according to the ministry, reinforces the ministry’s commitment to deepening qualified analyzes and formulating evidence-based strategies to combat organized crime in the country.

The minister had already announced, last week, the appointment of Chico Lucas for the position of National Secretary of Public Security.

The Minister of Justice also begins this Wednesday (28) a calendar of meetings with representatives of the Judiciary, Congress of institutions in the country’s public security area.

The first meetings will be with the Attorney General of the Republic, , and the President of , . The objective, according to the ministry, is to strengthen institutional dialogue and cooperation between the Powers of the Republic.

In February, the minister is also expected to meet with councils of security bodies, including Consesp (National Council of Public Security Secretaries).

The agendas, according to the ministry, reinforce the ministry’s commitment to permanent dialogue and respect for harmony between institutions.
