Iran is ready to negotiate with the United States, but if forced, it will fight back and react like never before. The Iranian mission to the United Nations (UN) wrote this on the X social network on Wednesday, writes TASR, according to a Reuters report.
“The last time the US got involved in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, they wasted more than seven trillion dollars and lost more than 7,000 American lives. Iran is ready for a dialogue based on mutual respect and interests – but if forced, it will fight back and react like never before,” the Iranian mission wrote on X, referring to a post by US President Donald Trump on the Truth Social social network.
In it, the American president once again threatened Iran with a military attack if it does not start negotiations with the United States about its nuclear program. “A huge army is heading towards Iran. He moves quickly, with great power, enthusiasm and determination.” Trump wrote.
The head of the White House recalled in the post that his last warning to Iran was followed by a military strike. He was referring to the bombing of three Iranian nuclear facilities, by which the USA joined the 12-day war between Israel and Iran on a one-time basis in June of last year. The declared goal of this intervention was to prevent Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, but Iran has repeatedly denied such an ambition.
“Time is running out, it’s very important indeed! As I told Iran once before, come to an agreement! They didn’t and there was ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’, the wholesale destruction of Iran.” The next attack will be much worse! Don’t let it happen again,” said Trump. According to Trump, Iranian officials should quickly sit down at the negotiating table in order to reach a “fair and balanced agreement – without nuclear weapons – that will be beneficial to all parties.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi declared a few hours earlier that Iran will not negotiate with the United States as long as they threaten it. In recent weeks, Trump has not ruled out military intervention in Iran in response to the bloody suppression of anti-government protests, but at the same time he claimed that Tehran expressed an interest in a diplomatic solution to the tension. However, Washington has moved a strike group led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to the Middle East in recent days in case Trump finally decides to take action against Iran.
The Republican president has renewed his “maximum pressure policy” on Iran since taking office last January. Already during the first term of office in 2018, he resigned from the so-called of the nuclear agreement between Iran and the major powers concluded in 2015. According to her, sanctions on Iran were eased in exchange for limiting its nuclear activities.
