SP records a drop in rapes, but cases are still around 40 per day

The State of São Paulo recorded 14,443 cases of rape last year, a drop of 0.9% compared to the 14,579 incidents recorded from January to December 2024. The numbers, however, are considered high: they are equivalent to almost 40 cases per day.

In the capital, there was an even more pronounced drop, of 2.5%: there were 2,934 cases registered in 2025. . The survey only takes into account crimes for which police reports were registered.

The Public Security Secretariat highlights, in a note, that it has adopted a series of measures aimed at combating violence against women, including monitoring aggressors with electronic ankle bracelets. According to the ministry, since 2023, 1,100 have been ankle braceleted, of which 112 men were arrested for non-compliance with protective measures.

The secretariat also states that it has carried out major operations to arrest aggressors, with 1,100 suspects arrested in the act in the last 2 months alone, and that it has intensified investment in other actions, such as the App Mulher Segura, which seeks to connect women at risk with the police – there are already more than 45,000 registered users and 7,000 presses of the panic button.

Among other measures, the ministry highlights the creation of the SP por Todas movement, developed to give visibility and facilitate women’s access to the protection and reception network, and the implementation of rental assistance, which already supports 4 thousand women victims of domestic violence in 582 municipalities. Furthermore, today there are 142 Women’s Defense Police Stations (DDM) and 170 24-hour DDM Rooms active in the State.
