Aldo Rebelo launches pre-candidacy for Planalto

Aldo Rebelo This Saturday he launched his pre-candidacy for the Palácio do Planalto with a speech focused on rebalancing the Powers and criticizing the Judiciary.

Aldo broke with his old political camp, moved closer to Bolsonarism in recent years and is now seeking to build his own project in the presidential race.

At the event, Aldo stated that Brazil needs to “remove institutional obstacles”. He said he had “personal appreciation for some STF ministers”, but insisted that his criticism was not directed at individual figures. “It’s not a personal problem, it’s an institutional problem”, he declared, arguing that the STF “cannot be a power above the others”.

The pre-candidate once again criticized the Court’s recent decisions and cited the time frame judgment as an example of conflict between the Judiciary and Legislature.

He recalled that he spent “24 years” in the Chamber without seeing any challenge to the original understanding on the topic. For Aldo, the clash between the decisions of the two Powers created insecurity. “Congress approved a norm, saying that the time frame was in force, and the Supreme Court revoked this norm”, he said, stating that the country today lives with “two contradictory norms”.
