Vienna – The family reunification of refugees to Austria fell sharply last year. After 8,234 applications in the previous year, in 2025 there were only 1,996. A detailed analysis available to the APA shows that this is only to a small extent due to the government’s stop on family reunification. Rather, a changed decision-making practice for asylum applications from Syria and many revocation procedures that have been initiated are likely to play a role.
