Representative Arlindo Chinaglia (PT-SP) wants the Lula government to prohibit the publication of betting odds (odds) and live predictions from commentators on the subject during broadcasts of .
He filed representations with the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon) linked to , and the Prizes and Bets Secretariat (SPA), of .
In the requests, the parliamentarian mentions that to encourage betting. He uses the example of the match between and in which the commentator described the opportunity as “wonderful” and that there was a “great chance of it happening”.
He says that they exploit the consumer’s fragility and also omit the bettor’s mathematical disadvantage.
“Inducing impulsive betting behavior additionally constitutes abusive advertising by inducing the consumer to behave in a way that is harmful to their health”, says one of the requests.
The deputy says that Senacon will allow any advertising without the need for judicial intervention, which means that the practice will be interrupted even during the World Cup.
Furthermore, he believes that a decision like this could act as a regulatory precedent.
Under the same argument, deputy Camila Jara (PT-MS) filed a bill that seeks to prohibit sports broadcasts.
The text prohibits mention of odds or financial returns on bets, the use of expressions that associate the result of the match with gains and the suggestion of guesses focused on bets.
The project establishes punishments in case of non-compliance, including the payment of a fine that can reach R$10 million and the suspension of advertising from bookmakers for up to 180 days.
