The network’s trains are circulating this Monday with incidents at 10 points and with dozens of sections in which the speed is limited due to problems on the tracks. Adif, Renfe and the Generalitat had conspired to return the service to normal today after two weeks of chaos and the effects of the latest rains. However, among the most used lines, today only R2 and R2Sud operate normally and without restrictions.
Adif and Rodalies that the expected return to normality could not take place today, despite the intense work of the technicians in recent days.
The spokesperson for Renfe in Catalonia, Antonio Carmona, highlighted this Monday that mobility is guaranteed on all lines, whether by rail or bus. “Joint work continues in Adif and Renfe to progressively recover the different affected sections of the network,” he added this Monday in a media address from the Sants station in Barcelona.
Adif continues working on the R1 (the one that connects L’Hospitalet with Maçanet-Massanes crossing the Maresme and the coast). Service is provided by train to Blanes and by bus between Blanes and Maçanet, since the landslide that occurred on January 23 has not yet stabilized. The Girona regionals have recovered the train service between Figueres and Portbou.
The R2 (one of the main lines of Catalonia that unites Sant Vicenç de Calders in Tarragona with Maçanet-Massanes through Barcelona and the metropolitan area) will circulate without courts. In the South R2 (which unites Sant Vicenç de Calders with the station of France) will continue to reduce the frequency of trains, two by sense and hour, due to an incidence in the path between Bellvitge and Saints.
The R3 (the one that connects l’Hospitalet de Llobregat with Puigcerdà passing through Barcelona, Granollers, Vic or Ripoll) is eliminated at the railway level. Last October the R3 began an unprecedented railway cut to unfold some sections. Because of these works, the trains between Fabra i Puig and La Garriga did not circulate and were replaced with buses. As a result of the current security crisis, the shuttles take over the service between Fabra i Puig and Puigcerdà, the entire line.
The R4 (the one that connects Sant Vicenç de Calders with Manresa passing through Martorell, Barcelona, Sabadell and Terrassa) is where the Gelida accident took place, claiming one fatality on January 20. This Monday the alternative road service between Sant Sadurní and Martorell Central will continue. From Martorell Central to Terrassa Estació de Nord the trains will run normally and, then, buses will go between Terrassa Estació del Nord to Manresa.
The railway cuts will also affect the regional trains that travel the section between Manresa and Cervera, which will be done by bus. Likewise, between Reus and Riba Roja d’Ebre and between Reus and Vinaixa they will be done by road, as well as between Reus and Plana Picamoixons.
Adif announced this Sunday that it was continuing to work at 31 points distributed across all Rodalies lines to protect trenches and slopes, in addition to preparing tracks. The public company states that “new actions are being incorporated based on the inspections,” and that as of this Sunday, more than 400 inspections have been carried out. These controls deserve “special attention” in sections close to the coast (Barcelona-Vilanova-Sant Vicenç de Calders or Barcelona-Mataró-Maçanet) and that continue through areas with more trenches or slopes (La Garriga-Vic-Puigcerdà, Barcelona-Tarragona-Móra la Nova-Flix, Barcelona-Girona-Figueres or Castellbisbal-Mollet).
