Brazilian Bia Haddad Maia still doesn’t know what it means to win in 2026. This Monday (2), she was surpassed by Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, currently 41st in the WTA rankings, in the first round of the WTA 500 in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.
The match lasted just under two hours and ended with the European victory by 2 sets to 0, with scores of 6/2 and 7/5. With the setback, Bia also remains in a delicate moment in the world rankings. In the most recent update, it appears in 68th place, falling seven positions compared to the beginning of January.
This stumble marks Bia Haddad’s third consecutive defeat of the season. After a break of approximately three months, her return to the courts was not as expected: she ended up eliminated in her WTA 500 debut in Adelaide.
Then, the script was repeated at the Australian Open. Once again, Bia failed to advance beyond the first round of the Grand Slam held in Melbourne.
The Brazilian tennis player’s most recent victory was precisely in the debut of the South Korean tournament, in September. Since that game, Bia has tried to find her way back to winning ways on the professional circuit.
When will Bia Haddad play again?
The expectation is that the Brazilian will return to the courts at the WTA 1000 in Doha, Qatar. Check out Bia’s scheduled calendar for the coming weeks.
