Greenland, under the "anxiety" and "uncertainty" of 'Trump syndrome'

Not all diseases have a marked clinical picture. In Greenland They have been living, for months, under a strange condition that is conditioning the daily lives of their population. It is about the ‘Trump syndrome’, a constant and growing discomfort among the inhabitants of an island converted into.

The Prime Minister of the island of Danish sovereignty, Jens Frederik Nielsen, has shown his incessant concern about Trump’s plans despite the fact that he has already ruled out the ‘military route’ to annex Greenland to the US. “The message and objective are clear: Greenland must be taken over and governed by the United States. Unfortunately, this is still valid and has not changed,” lamented the European politician.

In a statement from his Government published this Monday, Nielsen shows no respite from knowing that there will be – or so Trump promises – a forcible takeover by the USsince “the vision of Greenland and its population has not changed: Greenland must be linked to the United States and be governed from there.” This is how it appears, at least, in recent years.

For the Executive of the immense Arctic territory, known as Naalakkersuisut, the problem is basic, since the US still sees Greenland “as a commodity” that can be bought and, therefore, “individuals within the population can be purchased.”

It is not only a geopolitical problem, nor even an economic one. The Greenlandic Prime Minister comes to point health problems of the local populationaccustomed to a very high degree of independence and living apart from practically everything.

“This has generated great insecurity among all of us. Some of our compatriots suffer from serious sleep problemslos Children perceive the worry and anxiety of adultsand we all live with constant uncertainty about what may happen tomorrow,” warns Nielsen in the statement on behalf of the Government.

In his opinion, the little more than 55,000 inhabitants of the entire island are suffering from pressure and ‘completely unacceptable’ threats and “they continue to find themselves in a serious situation.”

Actions, not words

“It has been said clearly and forcefully […] but words alone are not enough“, he admits. That is why he claims to “protect” Greenland from the expansionist plans of Donald Trump and the entire White House.

Nielsen has insisted on the need to cooperate with its EU and NATO partners, as it is part of the territory of Denmark.

Under the shelter of the Danish state, the Greenland Government defends today that “we are not alone, and we are protected. All EU countries support us. When the threats began at the beginning of the year, European NATO countries and their heads of state reacted immediately with statements of support,” he stated.
