In recent days, a video has been circulating on social media showing an alleged Carris bus flooding during heavy rain, what happened during the Ingrid depression. Could it be that the imaDo the images that show passengers lifting their feet to avoid the water record something that happened in Portugal? SIC Verifies.
During the passage of the Ingrid depression through mainland Portugal, on the internet that shows the “Carris submarine”, reads the caption of the publication. In question, a “bus in Lisbon” which “was following its normal route when water began to enter”.
Still in the caption, the user describes the “surreal scene”, where “passengers needed to lift their feet to try not to get wet”.
“Everyone knew it was just a matter of time before the water took over, but the situation became a real test of patience,” adds the publication, which highlights the “reality [preocupante]”, given that “images like this show how extreme weather events are increasingly frequent, affecting the daily lives, public transport and routine of those who live or work in Portugal.”
Did this situation happen?
A reverse image search, through Google Images, reveals that the Video was not recorded in Lisbon. The original was published in November last year, in New York, in the United States, with reference to an incident on the day October 30, 2025.
Furthermore, the same video was later used in other countries to illustrate similar situations, for example, in England, two weeks after the original publication.
This video had also already circulated in Portugal, when the Claúdia depression passed, in November 2025.
A more detailed analysis also allows us to verify that the buses are not from Carris, since the signage visible on doors is in English and not in Portuguese.
Furthermore, an episode of this magnitude in Portugal would have been widely reported by national media outlets, which did not happen.
SIC Verifica contacted Carris, which confirmed “no [ter] any record of flooding in their vehicles, as a result of the Ingrid depression”.
“Additionally, it clarifies that due to the characteristics of the bus, it was not filmed in any Carris vehicle.”

The video circulating on social media alluding to a Carris bus does not show an episode that occurred in Portugal, nor is it related to Ingrid’s depression. It is, in fact, a recording made in the United States last year, which has been reused in a misleading way to illustrate storm situations in other countries.
