Motta promises to speed up the processing of the Security PEC and end the 6×1 scale

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), stated that he wants to make 2026 a year of “serenity, institutional firmness and concrete deliveries” and listed priorities, such as the Security PEC, the end of the 6×1 scale, the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union (EU), projects on artificial intelligence, the regulation of data centers and the proposal to formalize work by application.

The statements took place on the afternoon of this Monday, 2nd, during the ceremony of the National Congress to inaugurate the legislative work of 2026. Also present on the occasion were the president of the Congress, senator Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), the president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Edson Fachin, the minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, and the chief minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann.

“I begin this new cycle with confidence and conviction that we will continue working with responsibility, public spirit and commitment to democracy”, said Motta, in a speech. “May 2026 continue to be a year of delivery for the country, always meeting the expectations of the population, in tune with the streets.”

Throughout the speech, Motta listed priorities. “Right after Carnival we will move forward with the public security PEC, a matter of extreme concern for the majority of Brazilians. This House is committed to this PEC”, he said. The president continued: “We must also accelerate the debate on the PEC 6×1, with balance and responsibility, listening to workers and employers”.

Regarding the Mercosur-EU agreement, Motta stated: “At the international level, the signing, in January, of the long-awaited agreement between the European Union and Mercosur is worth highlighting, a historic milestone that inaugurates a relevant stage of integration and opportunities for Brazil. It will be up to the National Congress to analyze the text in its entirety.”

Next, the deputy mentioned topics related to new technologies. “We also want to appreciate the topic of Artificial Intelligence and look into the matter of incentives for Datacenter Services, an initiative that opens up a relevant investment window in the country”, he stated. “In the same way, we will deepen discussions on the relationship between application workers and digital platforms, seeking to reconcile productivity, rights and development”, he added.
